Dhaka, April 22 -- The government has placed 13 senior police officers -- 11 deputy inspector generals (DIGs) and two additional DIGs -- into retirement amid a continuing shake-up in the police administration.

The home ministry issued an order on Wednesday, saying the officers were being sent into "retirement in the public interest".

The officers belong to the 15th, 17th and 18th batches of the Bangladesh Police.

Although there are no formal allegations against them linked to the July movement, internal discussions within the force suggest that during the Awami League government's tenure they had received different departmental benefits, including promotions.
