Dhaka, April 6 -- The government has initiated talks to lease aircraft from US manufacturer Boeing, aiming to bolster the country's aviation capacity and expedite fleet expansion.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita and Boeing Vice-President Paul Righi at the Secretariat on Monday, according to a media statement issued by the ministry.

State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present at the meeting.

The talks covered the details of a previous purchase agreement initiated during the interim government, emphasising the need for immediate capacity enhancement, the ministry said.

The minister also urged Boeing to expedite the leasing process, it added.
