Dhaka, April 18 -- A gang of robbers has reportedly looted gold jewellery and cash worth millions of taka from seven shops, including six jewellery stores, at a market in Madaripur Sadar.

The organised gang also tied up and assaulted a witness during the heist at Houseidi Bazar in the Dudhkhali Union.

Madaripur Sadar Model Police chief Abul Kalam Azad said the robbery took place at the goldsmiths' alley of the market in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police and local business owners, a masked group first broke into New Priyanka Jewellers by cutting open the lock, taking cash and ornaments before moving through the market.
