Dhaka, May 2 -- Workers from two sweater factories are staging a road blockade and protest in Chattogram, demanding outstanding wages and overtime arrears.

The blockade began around 11am on Saturday at the C&B intersection on the port city's Arakan Road.

The workers remained on the streets well after 5pm, disrupting road communications between Bahaddarhat and Kalurghat and affecting routes to Rangunia, Boalkhali and Kaptai Upazila in Rangamati.

Superintendent of Chattogram Industrial Police Abdullah Al Mahmud told bdnews24.com that police are attempting to persuade the workers to clear the road.

"However, as they remain steadfast in their demand, we have contacted the owners," he added.
