From pension to protocol: Benefits Shahabuddin retains after resigning as president
Bangladesh, July 24 -- Former president Mohammed Shahabuddin remains entitled to a range of state benefits after stepping down, including a pension, healthcare and official protocol privileges.
Under the President's Pension, Gratuity and Other Benefits Act, 2016, a president who has served at least six months, whether completing their term or resigning, qualifies for these retirement benefits.
Shahabuddin resigned on Friday, ending days of speculation, nearly two years before the end of his five-year term.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad accepted the resignation and will serve as acting president, according to an official announcement.
In his resignation letter, Shahabuddin cited ill health and the need for long-term medical treatment.
