Freight train derails in Jhenaidah, snapping rail links from Khulna to north Bangladesh
Dhaka, May 21 -- A freight train has derailed near Jhenaidah's Kotchandpur Railway Station, snapping all rail links between Khulna and northern Bangladesh.
Ripon Mia, station master of Sabdarpur Railway Station, said this incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning. The train had been travelling to north Bangladesh from Khulna's Mongla Pot.
Twelve wheels on four wagons of the freight trail derailed in the accident.
A rescue train dispatched from Ishwardi has reached the scene and is conducting operations. Rail service will return to normal on the line soon, says Ripon.
Several trains in nearby stations were stuck due to the accident, he added.
