Bangladesh, Sept. 10 -- Sirajul Hoque, a retired professor of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at the University of Dhaka, has died.

According to a university press release, he died at 3:20am on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.

Sirajul was 73. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam expressed deep sorrow at his death.

Sirajul's Namaz-e-Janaza, or funeral prayer, was held at 11am Thursday on the premises of Curzon Hall at the DU campus.
