Former CAAB official caught taking bribe gets 5 years in jail
Bangladesh, July 9 -- A Dhaka court has sentenced a former Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) official to five years' rigorous imprisonment for taking a bribe more than six years ago.
Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of the Dhaka's 5th Special Judges' Court delivered the verdict on Thursday against HM Rashed Sarkar, who served as a junior license inspector and consultant at CAAB at the time.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Md Zahirul Islam said the court also fined him Tk 100,000.
He will have to serve another six months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
The court ordered that the fine be paid to the complainant.
Rashed, who had been out on bail, appeared before the court ahead of the verdict.
