Bangladesh, Aug. 23 -- The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has fined businesses Tk 6.7 million and filed 25 cases in a week as part of a nationwide crackdown on food safety violations.

The actions were taken between Aug 16 and 22 through inspections, mobile courts and summary trials in Dhaka and several districts, the agency said in a statement on Sunday.

The largest penalties came in Chattogram, where four businesses were fined a combined Tk 4 million on Saturday after inspectors found violations of the Food Safety Act, 2013. Four cases were also filed.

In Dhaka, seven businesses were inspected during the week. Three were fined a total of Tk 300,000 and three cases were filed.
