Bangladesh, Sept. 10 -- Firefighters have contained a fire at an old four-storey building in Dhaka's Mohakhali.

The Fire Service received reports of the incident around 11:15am on Thursday at the building next to the former British American Tobacco premises behind SKS Shopping Mall, according to control room duty officer Khaleda Yasmin.

Discarded plastic materials had been stored on the roof, where the fire started, she said.

Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen from far away as the fire spread.

Three units from the Tejgaon Fire Station doused the flames around 11:45am.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not immediately known.

No casualties were reported.
