Dhaka, March 14 -- Nur Nabi Sarkar was supposed to return home to Bogura's Shibganj for Eid-ul-Azha, marking the end of a decade-long struggle abroad.

Instead, his family now awaits his body following a tragic gas cylinder explosion in the Maldives.

The 27-year-old was among five Bangladeshi migrants killed early Friday at a construction site guest house on Digurah Island.

The blast reportedly occurred while the workers were preparing Sehri.

Nabi, the only son of Abdus Samad from Badagangnoi village, had not visited home once in his 10 years in the Maldives.

"He had finalised plans to return this time," said his nephew Md Mahbub. "Now we don't even know when his body will arrive."

The disaster has left the village in mourning.
