Dhaka, May 16 -- Public health experts have called for a formal measles treatment guideline in Bangladesh, warning the absence of one is costing children their lives.

They say a guideline would ensure uniform treatment across the country, helping bring down the death toll.

The government has conceded the need, saying producing one takes a minimum amount of time but it is working to get it done as quickly as possible.

A guideline typically covers disease prevention, detection, and treatment, drawn from research, scientific data, and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.

Its biggest advantage, experts say, is that it allows the same standard of care to be followed nationwide.
