Dhaka, March 5 -- Five candidates have been declared valid for the Sherpur-3 (Sreebordi-Jhenaigati) constituency before the by-election scheduled for Apr 9.

The candidates are BNP's Md Mahmudul Haque Rubel, Jamaat-e-Islami's Md Masudur Rahman, BNP "rebel" and independent candidate Md Aminul Islam Badsha, Islami Andolan's Abu Taleb Md Saifuddin, and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Marxist's Md Mizanur Rahman.

District Election Officer and Returning Officer Mohammad Jahangir Hossain announced the list from his office on Thursday afternoon.

Election activities in the constituency were previously cancelled after Jamaat's candidate Nuruzzaman Badal died on Feb 3 while campaigning for the national election.
