Dhaka, Feb. 27 -- Police have arrested seven leaders of the Awami League's women's wing and a microbus driver during a flash procession in Dhaka's Dhanmondi.

Assistant Commissioner Shah Mustafa Tariquzzaman of the DMP's Dhanmondi Zone said the arrests were made around 6:15am on Friday.

Around 20 to 25 women brought out a procession in front of Star Kabab restaurant on Road No. 2 at dawn, according to him. Carrying banners and placards reading "Mujib Premik Banglar Narira" (Mujib-loving women of Bangladesh), they marched towards Road No. 3 while chanting slogans.

A patrol team reached the spot after receiving information about the procession, said Tariquzzaman. The group dispersed and attempted to flee when police arrived.
