Dhaka, May 9 -- Egg prices have risen sharply in Dhaka's retail markets within a week, with each egg now selling for Tk 13 and a set of four costing Tk 50.

A week ago, eggs were selling at a maximum of Tk 11 each. Traders are now charging Tk 140 per the dozen.

Visits to the Shonir Akhra, Jatrabari, Kaptan Bazar, and Segunbagicha kitchen markets on Friday showed most vegetable prices remained stable, though green papaya prices soared high.

Aubergine prices fell after weeks of hikes, while beef and cock chicken prices eased slightly.

Mohammad Rubel, a trader at Segunbagicha kitchen market, told bdnews24.com: "We sell a set of four eggs for Tk 48 to regular customers. A dozen costs Tk 140."
