Dhaka, May 19 -- The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has dismissed social media claims suggesting its workers are arbitrarily removing stray dogs from the streets as "false and misleading".

On Tuesday, the city corporation said protecting residents from public suffering and nuisance is one of its key legal responsibilities.

It said immediate action is taken if reports emerge of rabid dogs or attacks on residents, especially children and pedestrians, in any area under the Dhaka South City Corporation.

Under the process, aggressive or sick stray dogs are being collected in the public interest and brought under scientific neutering and anti-rabies vaccination programmes under veterinary supervision to prevent the spread of infections....
