Dhaka, April 19 -- Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has installed 450 solar-powered LED streetlights in the Bhashantek slum as part of efforts to ensure "citizen safety and uninterrupted mobility".

The initiative was launched on Sunday evening near Gate 2 of Bhashantek Benarasi Palli, where DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan switched on the newly installed lights, according to a media statement.

He said DNCC was working continuously to implement the premier's commitments, adding that the solar streetlight project was part of that pledge.

"These lights have been installed with your money. They are your property, and you must take responsibility for their maintenance," he told residents.
