DNCC fines Banani construction site Tk 50,000 in anti-dengue drive
Dhaka, June 26 -- An executive magistrate of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has fined a construction site in Banani Tk 50,000 after Aedes mosquito larvae were found during a dengue prevention drive.
Executive Magistrate Marufa Akter Nelly imposed the fine on Friday as part of a campaign to inspect homes and destroy mosquito breeding sites across the capital.
Speaking during the drive, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam said the government's objective was not to impose fines or jail offenders, but to build a dengue-free city.
"If city residents remain aware and keep their homes, yards and rooftop flower pots free of stagnant water, it is possible to prevent dengue," he said.
