Dhaka, June 11 -- The Bangladesh government has proposed raising the disability allowance by Tk 1,000 alongside expanding the number of beneficiaries under the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury unveiled the Tk 9.38 trillion budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in parliament at 3pm on Thursday.

The budget is the first by the BNP government since it swept to power in the February election.

In his budget speech, Khosru said: "The number of disability allowance recipients will be increased to 3.8 million and the monthly allowance will be raised to Tk 1,000."

The current rate is Tk 900, paid to 3.45 million beneficiaries.
