Dhaka, March 12 -- A Dhaka court has denied bail to AKM Jamal Uddin, a professor of sociology at Dhaka University, in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Thursday, said defence lawyer Golam Rabbani.

Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman opposed the bail plea.

Paltan Police arrested the professor at Gulistan Zero Point while taking part in a programme titled "Bangabandhu Peace March-2026" on Wednesday morning.

The defence also sought division status for Jamal Uddin in prison.

The court directed jail authorities to take necessary steps in line with prison regulations.
