Dhaka Metropolitan Police tighten security around Aug 15
Bangladesh, Aug. 14 -- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken comprehensive and multi-dimensional security measures to maintain law and order in the capital and ensure the safety of the city residents on Aug 15, the day of the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A Friday media statement announced the additional measures but made no mention of the assassination or of former prime minister Khaleda Zia's birthday, which falls on the same day.
Nor did it explain the reasoning behind the heightened security.
Sheikh Mujib, the nation's founding father, was assassinated on Aug 15, 1975 along with most other members of his immediate family.
Two of his daughters survived as they were abroad at the time.
