Bangladesh, Aug. 8 -- The government plans to build a high-speed rail link between Dhaka and Chattogram, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said.

He said the route, once realised, would cut travel time between the capital and the port city to under two hours.

According to him, "regional loyalties" exist in everyone, but unity makes progress far easier, urging solidarity in the interest of both individuals and the nation.

The minister also stressed the need to prioritise an alternative rail route, or "cord line", to strengthen Bangladesh's transport network.
