Dhaka, March 26 -- A fire has erupted on the Chattala Express, a train travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka.
The blaze took hold of the train in Faujdarhat of Sitakunda at 7am on Thursday.
Ehsan Ali, assistant officer of the Kumira Fire Service Station, told bdnews24.com that the train caught fire during its journey to Dhaka this morning.
The flames were brought under control by 8am. The train's power car and an air-conditioned coach were damaged in the fire, he added.
He said it initially appears the fire may have started from the train's power car, though the matter remains under investigation.
The fire broke out after the intercity train left Chattogram for the capital at 6am, the fire service official added.
