Dhaka, March 29 -- Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, presiding over a parliamentary session for the first time, has pledged to perform his duties with strict neutrality.
The House convened at 3pm on Sunday after Eid and other holidays, with Kamal chairing proceedings in the speaker's absence.
He said, "I will always act impartially to ensure the rights, dignity and equal opportunities of every member of parliament."
The session began with recitation from the Quran, attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman.
In his opening remarks, Kayser sought cooperation from all members and said he had already stepped down from government and party posts to ensure neutrality.
