Dhaka, June 24 -- A government dengue taskforce has swooped down on Gulshan, fining several buildings where Aedes mosquito larvae were found, with State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam leading the drive.

The operation began after 9am Wednesday around the Gulshan Youth Club, also known as Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Memorial Park.

The Dhaka North City Corporation said it was part of the taskforce's regular programme to destroy Aedes breeding grounds and control dengue during the monsoon season.

The taskforce was formed under Alam's supervision, with the decision taken on Tuesday.

Dengue deaths remain low this year compared with last year's surge.
