Dhaka, Sept. 27 -- Bangladesh has reported six new dengue deaths and a record 2,158 hospital admissions over the last 24 hours, the highest single-day count this year.

The previous high came last Tuesday, when 1,872 people were admitted with dengue.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the year's death toll stood at 225 as of 8am Sunday, with September alone accounting for 128 of those deaths.

Hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation admitted 311 patients in the latest 24 hours, while those in Dhaka South recorded 197 admissions, the DGHS bulletin said.

Other hospitals in Dhaka Division, outside the two city corporations, admitted 356 patients.
