Dhaka, Sept. 23 -- A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has moved northwest and intensified into a deep depression.

According to a special bulletin issued Tuesday night, the system was centred over the west-central Bay and adjoining northwest Bay after intensifying.

Meteorologist Khandaker Hafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com, "It is not likely to develop into a cyclone for now. However, its influence may bring rain to the southern and southwestern parts of the country."

At 9pm, the deep depression was 875km southwest of Chattogram, 850km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 695km southwest of Mongla and 720km southwest of Payra.
