Dhaka, May 17 -- The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sent Prof Md Hasibur Rashid, the former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, to prison following his 10-year sentence over the murder of Abu Sayed, the first fatality of the July Uprising.

He was produced before the tribunal on Sunday.

Subsequently, ICT-2 bench Chairman Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury ordered him to be sent to prison under a conviction warrant.

Tribunal Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed said, "He (Prof Hasibur) had been absconding for a long time.

"Tribunal-2 has sent him to the central prison under a conviction warrant. He will serve his sentence as a convicted prisoner."
