Commerce minister downplays new US tariff on Bangladesh
Bangladesh, July 24 -- Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has brushed aside suggestions of a trade climate shake-up after the United States move.
Asked about the 10 percent tariff on Friday, he said Washington is simply replacing an earlier tariff set to lapse within 150 days under legal rules.
He explained that the move represents a rollover under a different name rather than an additional levy, meaning real-world trade conditions stay intact.
The minister spoke after opening a daylong free medical camp providing family planning, maternal, child, and eye care to tea garden workers at the Sylhet Government High School field in Lakkatura.
