Dhaka, June 9 -- A young man has been hacked to death on his way home after celebrating his birthday with his friends in Mymensingh.

The murder took place on Monday night at the Mazar Road intersection in Gafargaon municipality, said Gafargaon Police Station chief ASM Atiqur Rahman.

The deceased, 24-year-old Nahiyan Robin, was a sophomore student at a local government college.

Witnesses and locals say that it was Nahiyan's birthday on Tuesday. On the occasion, his friends organised a birthday party at the Gafargaon Dakbungalow premises at 12:01am on Tuesday. After cutting his birthday cake there, Nahiyan was returning home on his friend Shakibul Hasan Masum's motorcycle around 12:30am.
