Dhaka, April 11 -- A clerk has been sent to jail pending trial as the only suspect over the alleged rape of a sixth-grade girl rescued from a locked room of a school in Kushtia's Mirpur Upazila.

Hamidul Islam was produced before a court on Saturday afternoon, leading to his detention in custody, said Court Police Inspector Zahirul Islam.

He was named as the only suspect in the rape case the girl's mother filed at Mirpur Police Station, said its chief Shahidul Islam.

The girl, 11, was rescued from a room on the third floor of the Chhatragachha Secondary School around 8pm on Thursday with her hands and feet tied and her mouth taped.

Police primarily claimed to have found evidence of rape at the suspected crime scene.
