Dhaka, Sept. 21 -- Presley Gerber, the eldest child of supermodel Cindy Crawford and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, has died at the age of 27.

His family confirmed his death on Monday, HuffPost reports.

CBS News had earlier reported that Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility on Sunday. The cause of death remains under investigation, according to Deadline.

"The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time," a family publicist said in a statement first issued to CBS News.

Like his mother, Gerber was best known for his work as a model.

He made his runway debut for Moschino at the age of 16, according to HuffPost, before signing with IMG Models and working with brands including Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana.
