Dhaka, March 20 -- A farmer in Chudanga's Jibannagar Upazila has been shot by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Bangladesh border.

The farmer, 30-year-old Azad Hossain, came under the attack on Thursday afternoon.

Azad was first taken to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex before being referred to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital with multiple shrapnel wounds on the back and arms, said Jibannagar Police chief Solaiman Sheikh.

Azad was at his mango orchard near the border with India when he was shot.

Several others started to flee when the BSF suddenly opened fire, Azad recalled.

Ehsanul Haq Tanmoy, a physician at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said: "The bruises on Azad's back and arms might be shrapnel wounds.
