Dhaka, May 10 -- A couple and their three children have suffered burn injuries after a gas leak caused an explosion at a residence in Narayanganj's Fatullah.

The incident occurred in the Giridhara area around 7am on Sunday, according to Mahabub Alam of the Fatullah Model Police Station.

"A team was sent to the scene when the incident was reported," he said. "We don't have the details yet."

National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Assistant Professor Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said that five people had been brought to the facility in "critical condition".

The victims were identified as Md Kalam, 35, his wife Saima, 32, their son Munna, 7, and their daughters Kotha, 7, and Munni, 10.
