Dhaka, March 27 -- Five people, including a child, have been killed after being run over by a train in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail, police say.

The fatal accident occurred around 8pm on Friday near Bridge No. 7 near Dhalatengor under Dashokia Union, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of Tangail Railway Station Outpost.

The victims are believed to be members of the same family, though their identities have not yet been confirmed.

Police, quoting locals, said a passenger bus of Diganta Paribahan heading to Sadullapur in Gaibandha stopped in Dhalatengor after running out of fuel.

The driver and his assistant then went to a nearby pump to collect fuel after asking passengers to get down.
