Dhaka, Oct. 18 -- Police suspect a struggle for local dominance, linked to financial interests in the scrap trade, may have led to the killing of a Jubo Dal activist in Sitakunda.

Six people have been arrested, including the alleged shooter, who is involved in Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal politics, police say.

The suspects include Md Arif Hossain, 29, whom police identify as the alleged mastermind and shooter in the murder of Tarek Hossain Bappi, 26.

Arif is involved in Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal politics, police said.

Chattogram District Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam disclosed the arrests at a press conference on Sunday.

Police also recovered three illegal firearms they believe were used in the killing.
