Bangladesh, Aug. 17 -- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised the country's four seaports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 as a monsoon low persists over the northwestern Bay of Bengal.

In a bulletin issued by the Storm Warning Centre on Monday morning, Meteorologist Md Abul Kalam Azad said the well-marked low has intensified into a monsoon depression over Bangladesh's southwestern and west-central coastal areas and adjoining northwestern Bay. It may move further northwest, he said.

Under its influence, squally winds are likely to sweep across the maritime ports, the north Bay and adjacent coastal regions.
