Dhaka, Sept. 22 -- The government has eased its spending squeeze by allowing construction of buildings linked to the education, health and agriculture ministries.

The BNP government, which returned to power in February's election after nearly two decades, had pledged to prioritise education, health and agriculture. The relaxation comes as part of that policy focus.

On Tuesday, two conditions in an earlier circular were relaxed and replaced.

Construction of new residential, non-residential or other buildings will remain suspended, except for facilities linked to the education, health and agriculture ministries.
