Dhaka, June 11 -- The goal of the upcoming budget is to establish "a welfare state", Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said.

Speaking to the media on Thursday morning as he left his Gulshan residence to attend a cabinet meeting at parliament, the minister was asked what the new budget would look like.

In response, he said: "The budget has been formulated with the objective of ensuring that the benefits of economic growth reach everyone. It has been designed to lay the foundation stone for establishing a welfare state."

"We have tried to make the best use of our limited resources, and its implementation will require the participation of everyone."
