Dhaka, June 17 -- Election affidavits have confirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami MP Md Abdul Muntakim, who claims his his father was martyred in the 1971 Liberation War, was born 10 years later in 1981.

During a discussion over the proposed budget in parliament on Sunday, Muntakim said his family played a role in the 1971 war.

His comments have since garnered humorous reactions on social media.

He said, "My father and grandfather were martyred in the war. My father has six brothers -- four of whom were freedom fighters."

According to him, his grandfather and 10 of his 18 brothers fought in the war.
