Bangladesh, Aug. 12 -- A bomb has exploded in front of the main entrance to Barishal District and Sessions Judge Court.

The blast occurred around 10:30am on Wednesday, court police Inspector Anwar Hossain told bdnews24.com.

Witnesses said an unidentified man detonated a bomb before fleeing the scene.

The explosion caused a loud bang and sent smoke spreading across the area, triggering panic among people inside the court premises.

Senior officials of Barishal Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident and are assessing the situation, Inspector Anwar said.
