Dhaka, May 14 -- Prof Md Mamun Or Rashid has been appointed the vice-chancellor (VC) of Barishal University for the next four years amid a strike by a section of teachers demanding "fair promotion".

The education ministry announced the decision on Thursday, replacing Prof Mohammad Taufiq Alam.

However, after the news broke, the protesting teachers suspended the "shutdown" that had halted educational and administrative activities.
