Bangladesh to give measles shots to 1.6mn more children as vaccination gaps emerge
Bangladesh, Aug. 18 -- The government will vaccinate another 1.6 million children against measles after identifying gaps in immunisation coverage in parts of Bangladesh.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordination Committee on Immunisation at the health ministry on Sunday.
Health Services Division Secretary Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury said data from two organisations showed that some children aged between 6 months and 5 years had missed out on vaccination in pockets of the country.
"In light of that, we will administer the 1.6 million vaccines we currently have," he said.
The government is also moving to procure another 2.5 million doses to guard against future shortages, according to Kamruzzaman.
