Dhaka, March 26 -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has congratulated the people of Bangladesh on Independence Day.

In a statement from Washington on Wednesday, local time, he wrote:

"This commemoration arrives as Bangladesh begins a new chapter in its history, following recent elections. The United States values our longstanding partnership with Bangladesh, anchored in a shared vision for a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

"We look forward to strengthening our economic and security partnership for the benefit of both of our people."

He said, "As Bangladesh celebrates this momentous occasion, the United States remains committed to deepening our relationship and sends its warmest regards."
