Bangladesh, Aug. 17 -- Dhaka and its surrounding areas have experienced a mild earthquake.

The tremor, registering at magnitude 3 on the Richter scale, struck at 5:32am on Monday.

The epicentre was in Narsingdi's Shibpur, about 47km north-east of Dhaka, said Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's Seismic Monitoring and Research Centre.

Different parts of the country, including the capital, were rocked by stronger quakes on Nov 21 and Nov 22 last year.

Their epicentre had also been in Narsingdi.
