Dhaka, May 13 -- Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance tickets for the first day of Eid-ul-Azha journeys, which start on May 23.

The tickets for homebound Eid travellers went on sale on Wednesday. For the convenience of customers, 100 percent of the tickets will be sold online.

Tickets for trains in the West Zone of the railway went on sale at 8am. Tickets on the East Zone will be available from 2pm.

The tickets soon ran out.

Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md Kabir Uddin Mollah said, "The tickets for train seats on May 23 went on sale at 8am. The tickets for May 23 were sold out by 9am."

The railway authorities say train tickets for the five days before Eid will be sold in advance under a special arrangement.
