Bangladesh procuring 20mn litres of palm oil for subsidised sale to low-income groups
Dhaka, May 12 -- The government is buying 20 million litres of refined palm oil to sell at a lower price to low-income people holding Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) cards.
The Ministry of Finance said in an advisory on Tuesday the oil would be purchased in 2-litre PET bottles from two domestic bidding companies through a local open tender (national) system.
Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Limited and Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited will each supply 10 million litres.
The government will spend Tk 368.9 million for the purchase.
The proposals to purchase oil and pulses were approved at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Tuesday.
