Dhaka, Sept. 28 -- Foreign tourist arrivals in India have risen by at least 10.6 percent last August, marking the highest growth in a single month in over two years.

Citizens from Bangladesh and China topped the list of visitors arriving in the country.

Citing preliminary data compiled by India's Ministry of Tourism, The Hindu's BusinessLine reported on Sunday that 625,000 foreign tourists visited India in August last year.

During the same period this year, the number of foreign visitors arriving in India rose to 691,000.

A sharp increase in the number of Bangladeshi tourists played a major role in driving this upward trend.
