Dhaka, Sept. 25 -- A local betel-leaf trader in Sreepur, Gazipur, has been accused of raping a woman in front of her two children.

After the incident, the woman attempted suicide by jumping in front of a moving vehicle with her two sons. Her elder son, aged four, was injured in the incident. However, the woman and her younger child, aged two, survived.

Sreepur Police Station chief Mohammad Shahinur Alam said on Thursday that the incident took place late Tuesday night in an isolated area beside a betel-leaf warehouse in the Mawna intersection area of Sreepur Municipality.

The woman is a resident of Mawna Union in Sreepur Upazila.
