Dhaka, June 23 -- The prime minister's Information and Broadcasting Advisor Zahed Ur Rahman has said the court will decide whether the Awami League will be banned as a party.

At a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Zahed said the party, whose activities are currently banned, no longer has the "moral courage" to wage a movement.

"[The ban as a party] will be decided after the trial to prove whether it was involved in crimes against humanity or not," he said.

He was responding to a question about the measures taken by the government around the 77th founding anniversary of the Awami League and whether the party faces a "complete ban".
